The R went in for service on Thursday for:
1. Tail Light Out (I could fix it myself but I was too lazy)
2. Automatic Window Recalibration (I don't have the software)
3. "Active Chassis Settings Service Required Light"

The dealer was super-busy and they weren't able to run diagnostics by today, so I rescheduled the chassis part of the service.

The rest was completed for a total of $0.00. The dealer felt bad that it took so damn long that they didn't have the heart to charge me for a thing, including 4.5 days in two Toyota Loaners (Sienna, which I returned and got a Corolla).

Glad to be back in a legitimate car, not an appliance. Just pissed they washed my car (I specifically ask for them not to, because I have a fear of machine washes).

i hate to all because I guess it's true. Window lift calibration is a thing?

Yeah. For auto, or one-touch, windows. The module needs to know when the window has reached full-open/closed. Basically the calibration/normalization/learning tells the module where those positions are.

Seems like you got screwed, because plenty of manufacturers have one-touch down windows on all four and auto-calibrate by manually opening and closing fully one time. Then, voila the one-touch is back to normal. This is exactly how my Focus and Mazdaspeed 6 work. Become a pro lately with all the ECU resets on the MS6.

I think you meant to reply to the OP. But anyways, this is true. On Mercedes, just hold the window switch in the up position for a few seconds after it closes, done. But I'm not a Volvo guy, so I don't know how they do things. One question... How did he get screwed if they didn't charge him?

The issue was that once the driver's side window reached the top via the one-touch operation, it would immediately go right back down. I attempted to recalibrate it myself by holding the switch up after the window had reached the top, but that did not fix the issue. In the end, my only option was to do a software update myself (only available on Windows - I have a Mac), or take it to the stealership and allow them to do it.

Completely simple operation, which I'm sure plenty of people have gotten screwed by dealers in the past over. Luckily, I was not one of them.

Still have to make the drive up there, wait for them to do it, and drive back home. When it would've all been avoided by adopting what existed already and worked fine. Little stuff like this is what makes or breaks a car for me. If I have to go to the dealership for something as simple as one-touch windows, then I will gladly pass and stick to my simple-engineering cars.

Fair enough. It's hard for me to remember that not everyone loves as close to dealers as I do, 2 miles. Mine is very close to a nice hillside, forested neighborhood in a biggish city. Most of my customers live within half an hour, so not a real big deal. Plus, they like the free hand washes and loaners, sometimes customers will drop their cars off on Friday afternoons for an oil change, get a loaner for the weekend, then come back Monday to a clean and serviced car. So it's easy to forget about those who have to make a special trip.
